This afternoon, the Rowan-Salisbury Schools (RSS) Board of Education appointed April Kuhn as interim superintendent, effective immediately.
The announcement follows Dr. Jason Gardner’s appointment as superintendent of the Mooresville Graded School District (MGSD). He will continue his duties as chief academic officer until his position with MGSD begins in two weeks.
“Ms. Kuhn has been a constant source of both excellence and stability in everything she does for the district. We are excited to have her leading Rowan-Salisbury Schools as we finalize our superintendent search,” said Board Chairman Dean Hunter.
Hunter added that the Board is taking the superintendent search very seriously.
“We know it’s imperative to get a good superintendent quickly. We’re moving forward, and we made a lot of progress today narrowing down candidates.”
Kuhn has nearly seven years of leadership experience in Rowan-Salisbury Schools. Most recently, she served as RSS’s chief student services and compliance officer. Previously, she was assistant superintendent for advancement. Kuhn also worked as an English teacher at Salisbury High School from 2004 to 2007.
“I am a product of the Rowan-Salisbury School System, and I am truly honored to serve as interim superintendent. In this role, I will continue to advocate for our students and will work with school and district leaders to guide our district forward with excellence.”
