Canvas is the primary Learning Management System (LMS) used by teachers at North High School.

Login with Safari on iPad or Chrome on MacBook

Login with app on iPad (availble in Self-Service)

Students may use the process that best for them using the device that they currently have.

To log into Canvas, students must know the following:

1. Their PowerSchool Identification Number (lunch number)
2. Their Power School Password (please contact your teacher if you need your password reset)

Important links:

• Login to IAM (If you get a 404 error or blank screen close the window and open the Canvas link)
• Login directly to Canvas (click on STUDENT/STAFF)

Clever is the main tool that students use to log into many apps including Achieve 3000 and Edmentum.

To log into Clever, students will do the following:

1. Go to the Clever website for RSS
2. Enter their student username (last name, first initial, middle initial, and last three of lunch number).
3. The password is the PowerSchool Identification Number (lunch number).
4. Once in Clever, students will click on the application that they need.

For students using the iPad, there is an app in Self Service for Clever. After downloading the Clever app, students will follow the same process outlined by searching for Rowan-Salisbury i the schools tab).

All devices must go through a web filter called Zscaler. Zscaler is the internet filter that keeps our students safe when off campus.

To connect to the internet, first go to your Settings app and choose Wifi. From here, your iPad should generate a list of nearby networks. Choose your network and enter your network password.

Now go to Safari or Chrome. When you attempt to go to a website through Safari or Chrome, the Zscaler login screen pops up. You will see a box with the words, “Enter your company email address.”

• Enter your student email address (Ex. smithas257@rss.k12.nc.us) (notice that the address ends in @rss.k12.nc.us instead of @rssed.org)
• Now click Log In
• You will need to enter your Zscaler password (Student ID/ lunch #) on the next screen.

Now you should be able to connect to the internet. If you are visiting a website, type in the URL at the top of the screen in Safari or Chrome. Once you enter your Zscaler information on your home network, you shouldn’t have to do it again. You will have to do it if you try to access the internet on a different network (at someone else’s house, a place of business, etc.).

Locating iPad Self-Service

On your iPads home screen you will see the Self-Service Icon.

Locating MacBook Self-Service

Look under LaunchPad (the rocket ship) to find Self-Service. If you do not see it on the first page of LaunchPad you can type in "Self Service" at the search on the top of this screen to find it.

How to Use Self-Service

The Self-Service application will require a username and password.

• Username: (Ex. Smithat456)
• Password: Student ID / Lunch Number

Inside the Self-Service app you will find various applications.
Here are a few that you should install right away:

• Adobe Reader
• Canvas App (For notifications, we recommend Safari/Chrome for Submissions)
• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft PowerPoint
• Zoom

All students do have access to Microsoft Suite of products. We recommend these for now because unlike pages/keynote they will show up in your Grader in Canvas without having to download the file (saving you valuable disk space).

On iPads learners should install all Microsoft Suite software from Self Service.

They should sign in with these instructions:

• Open the Microsoft app (Word shown here).
  • Have them click on "Existing Microsoft 365 Users? Sign in"
  • (some apps just say sign in)
• Have them put their new manage account address here. (includes username@rss.k12.nc.us)
  • username is last name, first initial, middle initial and the last 3 digit of lunch number (ex: martincl123)
• When they click "Next" they will go to the sign in.
  • Here they will just use their student ID (lunch number) as their password.

Thats it! They can now use this Microsoft App full features.
